The Festivals
The Festivals
The Philippines is a dominantly Catholic country. The whole year round is full of celebration in various parts of the country in honor of patron saints, thanksgiving for a good harvest, or a foundation day of a certain place. The Filipinos will find any reason, that has a relevance to their place, to have a festival! But this is one tradition that you should not miss when traveling to the Philippines.
The townspeople and city folks alike, really look forward to their festivals or fiesta. It is the time to show off the best talents in their most colorful and extravagant costumes.Fluvial parades would line the roads and people would flock to the streets, rain or shine, to take a glimpse of it.During the festival, one can not
help but be caught up in the festive mood.Lose that inhibition and dance in the streets to the beat of the drums or the blaring sound of the sound systems.
Everybody is encouraged to join in the merrymaking.Having a good time is the name of the game. Just be responsible for your valuables though.Pinoys are honest and trustworthy people but there could always be one rotten tomato among the pack.
A festival could last for a week. There would be foodfests, live bands, dancing, and all sorts of shows the committee could think of. Its a total entertainment at its best! And a good reason to get drunk. The highlight of the festival is a beauty pageant. It is held for the most beautiful, the most intelligent, the most talented lady in the land to be chosen and crowned as the queen and ambassadress of goodwill.
How she makes her parents proud!
The festival is a good opportunity to reunite with family and friends.Pinoys living and working abroad would not pass up a chance to coincide their vacation with their fiesta. And the best part is,you can go from a house of a friend to a house of a relative, or a house of a friends friend, ( you get the drift ), for the free eat all you can extravaganza! Eat all the special and delicious food and delicacies prepared only for this occasion to your hearts content.Or should I say, specifically,to your stomachs content.
This is one good chance for you to meet all of your beloved pinays relatives and friends. Not to mention sampling all those gastronomic delights served on her table, which might as well be,in your honor.
